My favorite kind of session~ Ventura County Engagement Photographer, Ojai Engagement Photographer, Ventura County Couples Photographer, New England Engagement Photographer, New England Couples Photographer, Ojai Wedding Photographer

Yes, that’s right…

Working with couples and coming up with fun romantic session ideas one of my top favorite types of sessions!

I get giddy planning couples sessions, and preparing for them and then editing, and blogging them!

I guess if you are that excited to do something, then its really what you are meant to do!

So I guess I need to be doing much more of these, as they bring me so much joy!

{I also get giddy with maternity and working with women who just want a fun, feminine session too!}

Anyway, without further adieu, here is a super fun, and romantic session shot in Ojai, CA in January.

And we can’t leave out the children!;)

Aren’t they just too cute!?!

Believe me, they all had such unique personalities, it was too much fun!

These are some of my fav pics!

Thanks again Christina and Mike!

You guys are adorable!

Thanks for having me capture the love between the 2 of you,

and your sweet little fur babies too, of course!:)

Christina and Mike were already married, but didn’t have fun engagement pictures taken.

I am the lucky photographer who got to create these artworks for them!

Aren’t these pictures fun?

I recommend more couples document their love in fun artwork like this.

Not only is the session a gift in itself,

but the outcome of images afterwards are memories that will be past down for generations!

Not only that, but why wouldn’t you want to celebrate your love

with decorating your home with fun, romantic images of the love you share?

~Celebrate your love, I say!~

I hope I get to do this for more couples!

And also do this with my own hubby!

Have a great rest of your week!

Thanks for stopping by!

xoxo Shell

Highlights from our Travels to Costa Rica in Feb ~Costa Rica Photographer, Travel Photographer, Destination Photographer, Family Photographer, New England Photographer

Hi friends!

I know this post is so long over due!

I have been trying  to figure out how to break this down,

pick my fav pics, and also share all the amazing places and things we saw in CR-

but its impossible to do all that with out doing multiple posts!

Finally, I just decided to create a slide show and give you an idea what’s inside.

If you need a trip to Costa Rica, sit back and take one with us!

Here is what you will find in the slideshow:

We traveled from San Jose, all the way down to the coastline,

to the border of Panama to Pavones

(AKA the 2nd longest left in the world according to my surfer hubby).

You will see wildlife such as: toucans, scarlet macaws, and other tropical birds/ parrots,

wild horses, hummingbirds, monkeys, sloths, butterflies, iguanas, cows,

tropical fish, poison dart frogs, and other colorful frogs, and even crocodiles!

You will see our travels on bumpy dirt roads (that took hours!), surfing,

zip lining through the forest (even my 5 yr old did it!),

rain forests, empty beaches, remote towns, volcanoes, waterfalls, rivers, flowers, and plants.

Some of the towns featured: Manual Antonio, Dominical, Pavones, La Paz, Vulcan Poaz, Uvita,

as well as some of our lodging places.

In short-

We had a blast!

Thanks for watching!

xoxo Shell

PS. If you want me to dedicate a post to any of the sections of the trip I will!

I would be happy to post more info about what we did and where we went, and our travel stories:)

Just let me know in the comments below!

AMAZING!! What an incredible and beautiful adventure to share with your family!

Sweet Siblings and My Humble Beginnings~ Ojai Family Photographer, Ojai Child Photographer, Ventura County Family Photographer, Ventura County Teen Photographer

I am in love with the above photo.

(And they were so sweet about letting me play with this shot, before moving on to the funny, playful kid shots.

I have had the pleasure of working with this family before from when I first started out, and I have had the privilege of watching them grow up!

I am touched that I get to do that, capture children as they grow.

This was the end of the family session I posted last week.

(Stay tuned, there is a fun flashback of these two at the bottom!)

I will end with a couple of pics from the first session we had together way back- they were some of my first clients!

Look how cute they are!

(And remember, I was JUST starting out, so be gentle.)

So fun!

Please forgive for the crazy processing, etc.

BUT please know- this was my 3rd shoot-

But here’s something to inspire those of you just starting out:

1) I was using a Nikon D40 with lenses that came with it- most of my clients owned a better camera than I was shooting with!

2) I was also using a 50mm lens that would only shoot in manual focus, which meant I had to manually focus the lens for EVERY SINGLE SHOT.

{That was crazy when working with little kids, let me tell you! These guys pictured here made my job easy!

Whew! I get tired just thinking back to that camera and that lens!}

3) I did not have Photoshop or Lightroom or any real editing software- I used what my computer came with!

Now I shoot with a Nikon D700, in manual mode, but I have the focus on autofocus most of the time.

And now I use Lightroom or Photoshop to edit my pics, depending what I am doing.

I am telling you aspiring photographers, and artists of any medium this

so you don’t sit around and wait to get the best gear or software to show up

before following your passion.

Just get out there and make it happen with whatever you got!

How did I get clients when I wasn’t using all the fancy gear?

Well, I wasn’t trying to get clients at this point.

What happened was, I was shooting for fun-AKA getting out there and doing it-

and clients just showed up, and began asking for me to shoot their families or kids-

it just all snowballed from there!

That turned into lots of great practice for me, a portfolio to start with,

and then the money I made was all saved up and then spent on the awesome gear I have now!

Whoa- that was an unexpected end to this post!

Yes, I am a teensy bit shy about sharing my humble beginnings, but I am hoping to inspire you

No matter what type of creative passion you have.

Have a great week! Now get out there and create something;)

I was almost in tears looking at the first set. Stunning, safe, like a secret moment you captured for just a few eyes to see.

@JackieHennesse1 - March 19, 2014 - 11:55 am

One word: Stunning.

Hannah - March 20, 2014 - 10:09 am

These pictures are so beautiful! Can’t believe it’s only your 3rd shoot?! Bravo!

Shell - March 20, 2014 - 10:15 am

Thank you for all of the sweet comments! I want to clarify: Hannah, those last images were from my 3rd shoot, not the first ones. I have had much practice since those last few images. :)
